Flake & Polyaspartic Floor Coating

A flake floor is the speckled, textured finish you have probably seen in clean, well-kept garages and workshops. Colored vinyl chips are broadcast across a wet base coat, then sealed under a clear protective topcoat, often a polyaspartic. The result is a floor with color, grip and a forgiving look that does a good job of hiding everyday dust and tire marks.

Fort Smith Epoxy Flooring installs flake and polyaspartic floor systems for homes and businesses throughout Fort Smith, Arkansas, including garages, workshops, laundry rooms, patios, basements and commercial back-of-house areas.

What Is a Flake Floor System?

A flake system is built in layers. First, the prepared concrete receives a pigmented base coat. While that coat is still wet, decorative flakes are scattered over it, either as a light sprinkle or as full coverage. Once it sets, loose chips are scraped and cleared away, and a clear topcoat seals everything in place.

You can choose the flake blend and the amount of coverage. Full coverage gives a terrazzo-like, granite look; a partial broadcast lets more of the base color show through.

Why Polyaspartic Topcoats?

Polyaspartic is a type of coating that cures much faster than traditional epoxy. That faster cure can shorten the overall project timeline, so you are often back on the floor sooner. Many polyaspartic products are also UV-stable, which means they are less prone to yellowing in sunlight. That helps in garages with open doors or areas that get natural light.

Faster curing also means the material has to be applied with care and good timing, which is one reason this system is best handled by an experienced crew.

Built Around the Slab Underneath

Like every coating we install, a flake floor depends on the concrete under it. We grind the surface to open it up, remove old sealers or coatings, and fill suitable cracks before the base coat goes down. That preparation is what allows the layers to bond to the slab.

Why Homeowners Choose a Flake Floor

A flake system balances good looks with everyday practicality. Here is what it brings to a busy floor.

Hides Everyday Dirt – The multicolored speckle pattern masks dust, small debris and minor scuffs better than a solid-color floor, so it looks cleaner between sweepings.

Added Texture and Grip – The flakes give the surface a subtle texture, which can offer more traction than a smooth, glossy coating. Texture can be adjusted in the topcoat.

Wide Range of Blends – Choose from neutral grays, earthy tans or high-contrast blends to match your home, cabinets or business colors.

Quick Return to Service – With a polyaspartic topcoat, many projects move along faster than with traditional epoxy alone. We will give you a realistic timeline for your floor at the estimate.

Seals Out Spills – The clear topcoat helps keep oil, road salt and common spills on the surface where they can be wiped up instead of soaking into the concrete.

Fits Many Spaces – Flake floors work well in garages, workshops, basements, mudrooms and commercial back rooms where both looks and durability count.

Flake & Polyaspartic FAQ

What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?
Both are protective coatings. Epoxy is often used as a base coat, while polyaspartic is commonly used as a topcoat because it cures faster and resists yellowing from UV light.

Can I choose my own flake colors?
Yes. We can show you several flake blends and coverage levels so you can pick the look you want.

Will a flake floor be slippery?
The flakes add some natural texture. If you want more grip, we can discuss adding texture to the topcoat.

How soon can I park on it?
It depends on the products used and conditions at the time of install. We will give you a specific timeline before the job starts.
